So this might be a long review, longer than usual…
Out of the box, this mic sounds a lot better than many would expect it to be, Once you download the Wave software and add VST plug-ins, this is where mic truly shows its range of possibilities.
Elgato did an outstanding job here because you can fine-tune the mic to your preference and even fine-tune it enough where you can replicate the sound of mics, maybe even 10x the cost of this one, if not more.
While the Bit range only reaches 96 Bits, it’s entirely acceptable because most software doesn’t go any higher when it comes to streaming, and most likely if it were higher it would just end up getting compressed down to whatever Bit max that program caps out at.
The build quality of the wave mic is solid, but light, there’s not much heft to it, I believe it’s all metal/aluminum. The base stand is actually the heaviest thing in the box, mic body itself is mostly plastic (don’t get me wrong, the plastic on this one is actually sturdy as heck).
Just don’t consider dropping this mic and it’ll instantly sound x100 times worse, it’s a condenser after all!
1 month in, got myself fit with the Wave Link software, some tweaks here and there, and I can tell you, it keeps getting more and more advanced! and YES, my mic sounds like day 1 or even better…
Don’t expect much of it sitting on your desk though, the stand itself is super small and will barely be close to your mouth, hence vocals’ richness and density aren’t that good.
One more thing, Wave Link needs a review on its own for how useful and advanced this software is.
Elgato Wave 3 is definitely a 9.5/10 microphone, get it in your cart right away!! 🙂
